International Research Conference on Sustainability in Built Environment - CASLE
The Commonwealth Association of Surveying and Land Economy (CASLE) and the Building Economics and Management Research Unit (BEMRU), Department of Building Economics, University of Moratuwa, are jointly organizing the International Research Conference on Sustainability in Built Environment on the 18th and 19th June 2010 at the Galle Face Hotel Colombo.

This Research Conference aims at providing a forum for exchange of ideas between construction researchers in the areas of sustainability with a view to fostering a better link between industry and academia. The main theme of the conference is Sustainability in Built Environment.

SLQS-UAE Donates Medical Equipments and School Stationary to IDP Camps
 
  Sri Lankan Quantity Surveyors Group, SLQS-UAE, have donated SLR 150,000.00 to Red Lotus humanitarian organization in Sri Lanka in order to provide medical and educational assistance to Internally Displaced People (IDP) camp in Vavniyawa, at the most needed hour.  
 
 
   
 
 
SLQS-UAE Donates Gel-socks to Special Forces – Seeduwa
Sri Lankan Quantity Surveyors Group, SLQS-UAE,  have donated second and final lot of gel-socks to disabled soldiers center of SF headquarters in Seeduwa. In total 175 gel-socks handed over to the SF center in two occasions. The total value of the donation is over Rs. 1,250,000.00 .This high quality medical  gel-socks was a timey requirement to the war heroes at the SF center.
This contribution is a part of a series of donations of medical gel-socks, and high quality form mattress  by SLQS-UAE to the war heroes of the nation who fought for the national unity and protection of the motherland from terrorism.
On behalf of SLQS-UAE, Mr. Ajantha Premarathna handed over the second lot of Gel-socks to officers; Mr.  C. S Kaggoda and Mr. Upendra Karunarathne of SF headquarters in Seeduwa.

SLQS UAE is pleased to announce the launch of web site; www.cjayalath.com  by Dr. Chandana Jayalath, dedicated for construction professionals.

This is the first site of this kind ever launched by a Sri Lankan Quantity Surveyor to share and exchange his experience on a variety of topics and issues encountered during his industrial exposure with a vast international audience.
 
We as SLQS UAE consider it a landmark moment of truth in his career as a Quantity Surveyor and let us congratulate him.

 
 

Contract Administration Training Course – Award Ceremony

 

SLQS initiated another golden opportunity to enhance knowledge of Contract Administration (through six continuous sessions) in young quantity surveyors, who are in the initial stages of their careers. However, the program was not aimed specifically at such a group, but also to motivate other more experienced quantity surveyors to attend it.

The first session of ‘Contract Administration for Quantity Surveyors’ was conducted from 14th February to 19th February, 2009, at the Al Futtaim training center, by the well-known lecturer, Prof. Indrawansa  Samaratunga.

The certificate awards ceremony for those who successfully completed the programme was held on 23rd June, 2009, at Traders Hotel, under the patronage of Mr. Wasantha Senanayake – Consul General of Sri Lanka for Dubai and Northern Emirates, UAE.

 

Prior to the awards ceremony, another valuable CPD session was conducted by Engineer Parakrama Munaweera on the topic of ‘Technical Business Writing’.

On the same occasion, the SLQS offered an award of appreciation in honour of Prof. Indrawansa Samaratunga’s great contribution to Sri Lankan Quantity Surveyors in the UAE as well the Middle East at large.

Following successful completion of its first two courses of Contract Administration, SLQS-UAE has decided to organize another round for the third time. FIRST EVER SLQS-UAE Vs SLQS-OMAN CRICKET ENCOUNTER
IN Muscat - SULTANATE OF OMAN

It was a historical day for the Sri Lankan Quantity Surveyors living in the United Arab Emirates and Sultanate of Oman. For the first time of the sporting history of professionals, SLQS-UAE and SLQS-OMAN met at the Petroleum Development Oman - PDO Grounds in Oman on 15th May 2009 to play their first ever Cricket tournament.

The event was initiated by SLQS-UAE and intended to strength the relationships among Sri Lankan professional communities, living within the region. The concept was well accepted by SLQS-OMAN and both SLQS-UAE and SLQS-OMAN were successfully able to put the first step of a long way for a new era.

Three matches limited to 10 overs were scheduled to play between two teams and, SLQS-OMAN became the winner of SLQS-UAE and SLQS-OMAN trophy by winning first two matches consecutively.

Nalinda Kularathne (SLQS-OMAN) who got 4 wickets for 24 runs in 3.4 overs with some valuable runs of 13 in both games was selected as the man of the series. It was one of the remarkable moments of the day when, Nalinda gave away his trophy to Jude (SLQS-OMAN) who scored an excellent inning of unbeaten 53 runs with 4 sixes and 4 boundaries.
